These consensus criteria define response in adult T-cell leukaemia-lymphoma, a cancer caused by the HTLV-1 virus, combining the rules used for lymphoma and for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.
Adult T-cell leukaemia-lymphoma, caused by HTLV-1, is subclassified as acute, lymphoma, chronic or smouldering; the chronic and smouldering types are usually watched until they progress. A consensus meeting (Tsukasaki and colleagues, Journal of Clinical Oncology 2009) defined prognostic factors, subclassification and treatment strategies, and proposed response criteria specific to the disease, combining those for lymphoma and for CLL.
