LYRIC adds an 'indeterminate response' to the lymphoma response rules for immunotherapy, so that apparent growth from a flare is not mistaken for failure before a biopsy or later scan settles it.
Checkpoint inhibitors and other immunomodulatory drugs can cause tumour flare or pseudoprogression in lymphoma, and calling that progressive disease could take patients off a treatment that is working. A workshop (Cheson and colleagues, Blood 2016) gave provisional recommendations modifying the Lugano criteria for these drugs in trials, introducing indeterminate response for such lesions until biopsy or later imaging confirms flare or true progression.
