The 2007 Cheson criteria were the lymphoma response rules that first used PET scans; Lugano 2014 replaced them, but many trials still quote them.
The International Working Group criteria of 1999 were widely adopted but had limits, and PET, immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry had come into wide use. The International Harmonization Project (Cheson and colleagues, Journal of Clinical Oncology 2007) wrote revised definitions of response in non-Hodgkin and Hodgkin lymphoma incorporating these, with standard endpoint definitions, for study groups, industry and regulators.
