Achieve Life Sciences carries the trial record of OncoGenex, whose antisense drug custirsen failed phase 3 trials in prostate and lung cancer before the company turned to a smoking-cessation medicine.
Overview
OncoGenex Pharmaceuticals, founded in 2000 in Bothell, Washington, developed custirsen (OGX-011), an antisense inhibitor of clusterin, and led the phase 3 SYNERGY and AFFINITY trials in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer and a phase 3 trial in non-small cell lung cancer, none of which improved survival. In 2017 it merged with Achieve Life Sciences, which now develops cytisinicline for smoking cessation, a cancer prevention aim. The custirsen trials sit on ClinicalTrials.gov under the Achieve name.
