The AGO Study Group is the German gynaecological oncology trials group, founded in 1993 as AGO-OVAR to improve ovarian cancer treatment; it sponsors DESKTOP III and four other ovarian and vulvar cancer trials in OnCo.
Overview
The AGO Study Group was established in 1993 as a non-profit organisation under the name AGO Studiengruppe Ovarialkarzinom (AGO-OVAR), at first to improve the treatment of ovarian carcinoma and, from 2007, the other gynaecological tumours; its website counts more than 250 university and non-university centres and lists the initiation and conduct of clinical trials, training and work in national and international expert groups as its tasks. Its study office, AGO Research GmbH, has its seat at Kaiser-Friedrich-Ring 71, Wiesbaden, with a second study secretariat in Essen. ClinicalTrials.gov names AGO Study Group (OTHER class) as lead sponsor of DESKTOP III (NCT01166737, phase 3, secondary cytoreductive surgery in platinum-sensitive relapsed ovarian cancer) and of NCT00189345, and AGO Research GmbH (INDUSTRY class on the registry) as lead sponsor of NCT04274426 (mirvetuximab soravtansine in folate receptor alpha-high ovarian cancer), NCT04644289 (WoO, olaparib and durvalumab window study) and NCT05903833 (pembrolizumab with lenvatinib in vulvar cancer). It has no products of its own.
