The national trials group for gynaecological cancers in Australia and New Zealand, which co-led OUTBACK, the international trial that found adding chemotherapy after chemoradiation did not help women with cervical cancer.
ANZGOG describes itself as the peak national gynaecological cancer clinical trials organisation for Australia and New Zealand, conducting and promoting trials and multidisciplinary research into the causes, prevention and treatment of gynaecological cancers. It is based at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse in Camperdown, Sydney, and its fundraising arm is WomenCan. Its best-known result is OUTBACK (ANZGOG 0902, GOG-0274), run with NRG Oncology, which tested adjuvant carboplatin and paclitaxel after standard chemoradiation for locally advanced cervical cancer and found no survival benefit. It also runs Survivors Teaching Students, under licence from the US Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, which brings survivors and carers into the classrooms of health professional students; ANZGOG reports that the programme has passed 20,000 students.
