AIO is the medical oncology working group of the German Cancer Society, founded in 1976 with about 1,500 members; its trials company AIO-Studien-gGmbH sponsors the NALIRICC, NIFE and FLOT4 trials in OnCo and co-ran FIRE-3 and SSG XVIII.
Overview
The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Internistische Onkologie in der Deutschen Krebsgesellschaft e.V. (AIO) was founded in 1976 and today counts about 1,500 members, with its office at Kuno-Fischer-Strasse 8, Berlin (aio-portal.de). Its trials arm, AIO-Studien-gGmbH, grew out of the AIO study centre and was entered in the Berlin-Charlottenburg commercial register in 2007; it designs, implements and manages phase 1 to 4 trials and shares the Berlin address. ClinicalTrials.gov names AIO-Studien-gGmbH (OTHER class) as lead sponsor of NALIRICC (NCT03043547, phase 2, liposomal irinotecan with fluorouracil in biliary tract cancer, with Servier) and NIFE (NCT03044587, phase 2, liposomal irinotecan combinations in biliary tract cancer); FLOT4 (NCT01216644, perioperative FLOT in gastric and oesophagogastric junction adenocarcinoma) is registered by Krankenhaus Nordwest as an AIO trial; SSG XVIII/AIO (NCT00116935, adjuvant imatinib in GIST) was run with the Scandinavian Sarcoma Group; and FIRE-3 (recorded with CRYSTAL) was the AIO trial of cetuximab against bevacizumab with FOLFIRI in colorectal cancer. It has no products of its own.
