Bavarian Nordic
Bavarian Nordic is a Danish vaccine company whose poxvirus-based prostate cancer vaccine PROSTVAC failed the phase 3 PROSPECT trial in 2017, after which it concentrated on infectious disease vaccines such as its smallpox and mpox vaccine.
Overview
Bavarian Nordic, based in Hellerup near Copenhagen and listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen, built its business on the modified vaccinia Ankara platform. In cancer it developed PROSTVAC (rilimogene galvacirepvec), a vaccinia and fowlpox vaccine against prostate-specific antigen, which did not improve survival in the phase 3 PROSPECT trial in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer reported in 2017, and CV301, a vaccine against CEA and MUC1 tested with checkpoint inhibitors. The company now focuses on travel and public health vaccines. It appears on OnCo as a lead sponsor of phase 3 cancer trials on ClinicalTrials.gov.
