Emergent BioSolutions
Emergent is a Maryland vaccines and biodefence company whose brief oncology venture, the anti-CD37 protein otlertuzumab inherited from Trubion, reached late trials in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia before being shelved.
Overview
Emergent BioSolutions, founded in 1998 and headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland, makes vaccines and countermeasures for public health threats and the overdose antidote Narcan. Through its 2010 acquisition of Trubion Pharmaceuticals it briefly developed otlertuzumab (TRU-016), a CD37-directed protein therapeutic tested in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, later spun out. ClinicalTrials.gov lists Emergent as lead sponsor of a phase 3 trial in a cancer setting.
