The Cologne-based group whose HD trials, from BEACOPP to BrECADD in HD21, have set the standard for treating Hodgkin lymphoma for four decades.
Overview
Founded in 1978 by Volker Diehl and based at the University Hospital of Cologne, the GHSG has enrolled tens of thousands of patients in sequential HD trials that defined stage-adapted therapy. Its work produced the escalated BEACOPP regimen, showed PET-guided de-escalation is safe (HD16, HD18), and in HD21 showed brentuximab-based BrECADD is less toxic and at least as effective as BEACOPP in advanced disease. The group runs a central review panel for pathology and imaging and long-term survivorship studies of second cancers and cardiac toxicity. It sits within the Department I of Internal Medicine at Cologne.
