Invitae was a large US genetic testing company, used by many families to check for inherited changes that raise cancer risk. It went bankrupt in 2024 and Labcorp bought its main business; its tests are now sold as part of Labcorp.
Invitae, based in San Francisco, described itself as a medical genetics company delivering genetic information to patients and their providers through digital technology, with testing across oncology, women's health, paediatric and rare disease, cardiology and neurology. On 13 February 2024 Invitae (then OTC: NVTA) filed for voluntary Chapter 11 protection in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey, with the support of its senior secured noteholders, to pursue a sale. On 5 August 2024 Labcorp announced it had completed the acquisition of select assets of Invitae (OTC: NVTAQ), to expand its specialty testing in oncology and rare disease. The Invitae website now operates under Labcorp.
