Luminate Medical, based in Galway, developed Lily, a wearable cap that applies controlled compression to the scalp during chemotherapy infusion to restrict blood flow to hair follicles and prevent chemotherapy-induced hair loss, an alternative to cold-cap scalp cooling that requires no refrigeration and can be used at home. The company has run clinical studies in Ireland and the US and is pursuing regulatory clearance; it has also described devices for other infusion-related side effects. It states a broader aim of making cancer care at home possible.
