Pyrexar Medical
Pyrexar Medical makes the BSD-2000 deep regional hyperthermia systems, the reference machines for heating pelvic and abdominal tumours alongside radiotherapy, and the BSD-500 for superficial and interstitial heating.
Overview
Pyrexar Medical took over the hyperthermia business of BSD Medical, whose phased-array systems have been used in clinical trials since the 1980s. Its BSD-2000 family, including an MR-compatible version that runs inside a 1.5 T scanner for non-invasive thermometry, is installed mainly in European, Asian and American university centres; the BSD-500 treats chest-wall recurrences and other superficial tumours with microwave applicators.
