Vara
Vara makes artificial intelligence software that reads screening mammograms in Germany's national breast screening programme, flagging normal scans and highlighting suspicious ones so radiologists find more cancers with less work.
Overview
Vara, founded in Berlin in 2018, develops AI for breast cancer screening. Its CE Class IIb certified software is offered as a web-based screening workflow with AI triage of normal exams and automated reporting, as a plug-in for existing PACS systems, and for digital breast tomosynthesis. The company states it holds the only AI certification for independent reading in population screening in Europe. The PRAIM study, a prospective real-world evaluation across 12 screening centres and about 460,000 women published in Nature Medicine, reported a higher cancer detection rate with the AI-supported workflow while reducing radiologist workload, and the company reports deployment across more than half of Germany's national screening programme with over 100 partner sites. No funding round is disclosed on the company website.
Notes
top- No investors or rounds could be sourced from primary releases; stage set to startup provisionally. The Nature Medicine PRAIM figures (1.0 percent higher detection rate, 1.0 percent lower workload as quoted on the website) come from the company homepage.
