Overview
Alex Scott, a child with neuroblastoma, held her first lemonade stand in 2000 to raise money for her hospital; after her death in 2004 her parents Liz and Jay Scott turned the stands into a national foundation. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation funds childhood cancer research grants across career stages, travel support for families in trials, and the Childhood Cancer Data Lab, which builds open data tools for paediatric cancer researchers. Its model, thousands of small community fundraisers pooled into research grants, is the pattern several later childhood cancer charities have followed.
