Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center, Baylor College of Medicine
Baylor's NCI comprehensive centre in the Texas Medical Center, home of the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy and the first GD2 CAR-T trial in children.
NCI-designated in 2007 and comprehensive since 2015, the Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center sits beside MD Anderson in Houston's Texas Medical Center and works through Baylor St. Luke's, Texas Children's and the Michael E. DeBakey VA hospitals. Its Center for Cell and Gene Therapy (Malcolm Brenner, Helen Heslop, Cliona Rooney) pioneered virus-specific T cells, multi-antigen T cells and, in 2008, the first GD2 CAR-T trial in neuroblastoma; it spun out several cell therapy companies. The Human Genome Sequencing Center under Richard Gibbs sequenced tumours for The Cancer Genome Atlas, and the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center (Kent Osborne, Matthew Ellis, Rachel Schiff) is a leader in endocrine resistance.
