Neurosurgeon-scientist who defined the four molecular subgroups of medulloblastoma that now guide therapy.
Overview
Michael Taylor led the international consensus that divided medulloblastoma into WNT, SHH, Group 3 and Group 4 subgroups, a classification adopted by the WHO that underpins current risk-stratified and de-escalated treatment trials. His laboratory showed that medulloblastoma metastases diverge genetically from the primary tumour and that the tumours spread via blood. He moved from SickKids Toronto to Texas Children's in 2023.
