Narayana Health (Mazumdar Shaw Medical Centre)
Devi Shetty's low-cost hospital network, whose Mazumdar Shaw cancer centre in Bengaluru applies high-volume, low-price surgery and transplant to cancer and hosts India's second CAR-T developer.
Overview
Narayana Health began in 2001 when cardiac surgeon Devi Shetty founded Narayana Hrudayalaya at Bommasandra outside Bengaluru; it grew into a listed group of 24 hospitals and 7 heart centres across India and the Cayman Islands, known for driving procedure costs down through volume and process. Cancer care is concentrated at the Mazumdar Shaw Medical Centre at Narayana Health City, established in 2009 with Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw as a 1,400-bed cancer and multispecialty campus, with large bone marrow transplant, paediatric haematology-oncology, radiation and surgical programmes. The campus is also home to Immuneel Therapeutics, whose CAR-T Qartemi was developed and trialled there.
