Alexander J. Stratigos
Athens dermatologist who led the trial showing that cemiplimab works in advanced basal cell carcinoma after Hedgehog inhibitors have failed, and who co-authors the European skin cancer guidelines.
Overview
Alexander Stratigos is professor of dermatology at the University of Athens and works at Andreas Sygros Hospital. He was first author of the 2021 Lancet Oncology report of the phase 2 trial in which the PD-1 antibody cemiplimab produced durable responses in locally advanced basal cell carcinoma after progression on or intolerance of Hedgehog pathway inhibitors, leading to its approval in that setting. He leads the European guideline groups for basal and squamous-cell skin cancer.
