Overview
Arnaud Méjean (Paris) was principal investigator of CARMENA, which showed sunitinib alone was non-inferior to cytoreductive nephrectomy followed by sunitinib in intermediate and poor-risk metastatic renal cell carcinoma, ending routine upfront nephrectomy in the targeted therapy era. His work redefined the role of surgery in advanced kidney cancer and is being revisited in the immunotherapy era.
