Carlos Caldas
Led METABRIC, which used 2,000 tumours to define ten genomic subtypes of breast cancer and their long-term outcomes.
Overview
Carlos Caldas led METABRIC, the integrated genomic and transcriptomic analysis of 2,000 breast cancers that defined ten integrative clusters with distinct 20-year outcomes, and the follow-up showing that late relapse risk differs sharply between them. His group built a large breast cancer PDX biobank for functional testing and studies the evolution of metastatic breast cancer. He led the Cambridge Breast Cancer Research Unit.
