Monica Morrow
Breast surgeon whose margin and axillary guidelines cut unnecessary re-excisions and lymph node surgery worldwide.
Overview
Monica Morrow co-chaired the SSO-ASTRO consensus that defined 'no ink on tumour' as an adequate margin for breast conservation, sharply reducing re-excision rates, and has led the evidence for omitting axillary dissection after positive sentinel nodes. She chairs the breast service at MSKCC and has been president of the Society of Surgical Oncology. Her work continues on tailoring surgery to response after neoadjuvant therapy.
