Overview
Armando Giuliano performed the first sentinel lymph node biopsies for breast cancer in the early 1990s and then led ACOSOG Z0011, the trial showing women with one or two positive sentinel nodes treated with breast conservation and radiotherapy do not need completion axillary dissection. The ten-year results changed practice worldwide and spared hundreds of thousands of women lymphoedema. He continues to lead surgical trials at Cedars-Sinai.
