Joseph A. Sparano
Led TAILORx, which showed most women with intermediate Oncotype scores can safely skip chemotherapy.
Overview
Joseph Sparano was study chair of TAILORx, the ECOG-ACRIN trial of 10,000 women that showed endocrine therapy alone is non-inferior to chemo-endocrine therapy for HR-positive, node-negative breast cancer with a mid-range 21-gene recurrence score. The result spared tens of thousands of patients chemotherapy each year and made genomic assays standard in early breast cancer. He continues to lead ECOG-ACRIN breast trials on treatment de-escalation and ctDNA.
