Caroline Moore

Caroline Moore is Professor of Urology at University College London and an honorary consultant urologist at University College London Hospitals, where she heads urology in the Department of Targeted Intervention. Her work sits on the diagnostic half of the overdiagnosis problem: she was a senior investigator on PRECISION, the randomised comparison that showed MRI with targeted biopsy finds more clinically significant cancer and less clinically insignificant cancer than a standard twelve-core transrectal biopsy, and that 28 percent of men in the MRI arm had a non-suspicious scan and no biopsy at all.

She leads UCL work on active surveillance and on focal therapy, and on the patient-reported outcomes of both, which is where the argument about screening will eventually be settled: a programme that detects cancers it then does not have to treat radically is a different proposition from the one the UK National Screening Committee modelled.
