University College London Hospitals / UCL Cancer Institute
Central London's university hospital and one of two NHS proton beam therapy centres, backed by UCL's cancer institute and its CAR-T and lung cancer evolution research.
UCLH runs one of the UK's largest cancer services, including the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre, a national proton beam therapy centre that opened in 2021, and a teenage and young adult cancer unit. The UCL Cancer Institute hosts the TRACERx lung cancer evolution study with the Francis Crick Institute under Charles Swanton, Martin Pule's CAR-T engineering group that spun out Autolus, and Sergio Quezada's work on clonal neoantigen T-cell therapy behind Achilles Therapeutics. The MRC Clinical Trials Unit at UCL coordinated the STAMPEDE prostate cancer platform trial and the Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre runs many national trials. UCLH is also a major site for lung screening studies and adult ALL cell therapy.

Leads TRACERx, the study that follows lung cancers as they evolve, and showed how air pollution can trigger lung cancer without new mutations.
Nicholas James is chief investigator of STAMPEDE, the platform trial that reshaped treatment of advanced prostate cancer.
