Mahesh K. B. Parmar
Statistician who invented the multi-arm multi-stage design behind STAMPEDE, letting one trial test many treatments at once.
Overview
Mahesh Parmar developed the multi-arm multi-stage (MAMS) platform trial design and applied it in STAMPEDE, which tested ten treatment approaches for advanced prostate cancer in a single trial and established docetaxel and abiraterone as standards. He directs the MRC Clinical Trials Unit at UCL, which runs trials across cancer, HIV and tuberculosis, and has led methodological work on adaptive designs and meta-analysis.
