Cancer biologist who has been President and CEO of The Wistar Institute in Philadelphia since 2015 and directs its NCI-designated Ellen and Ronald Caplan Cancer Center.
Overview
Dario C. Altieri (MD) is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Wistar Institute in Philadelphia, Director of its Ellen and Ronald Caplan Cancer Center and the Robert and Penny Fox Distinguished Professor in the Genome Regulation and Cell Signaling Program. He joined Wistar in September 2010 as Cancer Center Director and its first Chief Scientific Officer and was appointed President and CEO in 2015. Born in Milan and trained at the University of Milan School of Medicine, he previously held positions at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, Yale University School of Medicine and the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he was founding chair of Cancer Biology. His laboratory studies how cancer cells exploit cellular plasticity and mitochondrial reprogramming, including the survivin pathway and the mitochondria-targeted drug Gamitrinib, which has entered clinical trials.
