Overview
Goh Cheng Liang (1927-2025) built the Nippon Paint business in South East Asia from a small paint shop and became one of Singapore's richest men and quietest donors. The National Cancer Centre Singapore records that its proton therapy centre was made possible by a generous $50 million gift from the Goh Foundation and named the Goh Cheng Liang Proton Therapy Centre. It gives patients in Singapore and the region access to proton beam therapy, which targets tumours while sparing surrounding tissue and matters most for children and for tumours near critical structures; NCCS is the only public healthcare institution in Singapore to offer it. The gift put an expensive technology inside a public system rather than a private clinic.
