Led KEYNOTE-045, the first trial to show immunotherapy beats chemotherapy in advanced bladder cancer.
Overview
Joaquim Bellmunt was principal investigator of KEYNOTE-045, which showed pembrolizumab improves survival over second-line chemotherapy in platinum-refractory urothelial cancer, the first randomised survival benefit for immunotherapy in the disease. He developed the Bellmunt prognostic score and led the vinflunine and TCGA bladder subtype work. He directs the bladder cancer centre at Dana-Farber.
