Nicolas Penel
Medical oncologist and sarcoma specialist who directs Institut Bergonié, the regional cancer centre for Nouvelle-Aquitaine in Bordeaux.
Overview
Nicolas Penel is Directeur Général of Institut Bergonié, the regional comprehensive cancer centre (Centre de Lutte Contre le Cancer) for Nouvelle-Aquitaine, based in Bordeaux with around 1,000 staff, more than 100 physicians and 159 beds serving nearly six million inhabitants. He is a medical oncologist and university professor at the University of Lille whose expertise is in sarcoma management and early-phase clinical trials, and he has authored or co-authored more than 450 indexed publications. Before joining Bergonié he spent ten years as Director of Clinical Research and Innovation at Centre Oscar Lambret in Lille. He was appointed to lead the institute's new strategic establishment project, working with deputy director general Céline Etchetto and research director Pierre Soubeyran.
