Philip Crosbie

Philip Crosbie is Clinical Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Manchester and an honorary consultant at Wythenshawe Hospital, where the North West Lung Centre sits, with a visiting senior lectureship at the University of Leeds. His page says his research and clinical focus is the early detection of lung cancer, specifically targeted community-based low-dose CT screening.

He is first author of the Manchester Lung Health Check pilot papers in Thorax: the baseline round found that 75 percent of attendees came from the poorest fifth of the population and that 80 percent of the cancers detected were early stage, and the second round found 90 percent adherence, 79 percent of cancers at stage 1 and no interval cancers. A companion paper showed that location mattered: nearly a quarter of attendees said they would have been less likely to come to a hospital, and that was truest of current smokers and of the most deprived. He is co-chief investigator of the Yorkshire Lung Screening Trial with Matthew Callister and scientific lead on PROMINENT, a Cancer Research UK cohort study of the molecular signatures of smoking cessation.
