Overview
Robert Timmerman led the Indiana and RTOG 0236 trials that established stereotactic body radiotherapy as a curative option for medically inoperable stage I lung cancer, with local control above 90%. He defined the toxicity limits for central tumours and leads NRG trials of SBRT in operable patients and oligometastatic disease. His work made ablative radiotherapy a mainstream modality.
