KAT2B
KAT2B (Histone acetyltransferase KAT2B) is a protein that switches other genes on and off. In the public catalogues the evidence so far is association rather than a proven role.
Overview
Functions as a histone acetyltransferase (HAT) to promote transcriptional activation. Has significant histone acetyltransferase activity with core histones (H3 and H4), and also with nucleosome core particles. Has a a strong preference for acetylation of H3 at 'Lys-9' (H3K9ac).
Open Targets scores its association with cancer at 0.64 (direct and indirect evidence; datatypes literature 0.98, affected pathway 0.94, genetic association 0.30).

- 3 · How drugs use it
No product in this corpus aims at KAT2B yet. Transcription factors have no pocket to plug, so drugs either degrade them or block the partner protein they need to dock on DNA.

Biology
Functions as a histone acetyltransferase (HAT) to promote transcriptional activation. Has significant histone acetyltransferase activity with core histones (H3 and H4), and also with nucleosome core particles. Has a a strong preference for acetylation of H3 at 'Lys-9' (H3K9ac). Also acetylates non-histone proteins, such as ACLY, MAPRE1/EB1, PLK4, RRP9/U3-55K and TBX5. Inhibits cell-cycle progression and counteracts the mitogenic activity of the adenoviral oncoprotein E1A. Acts as a circadian transcriptional coactivator which enhances the activity of the circadian transcriptional activators: NPAS2-BMAL1 and CLOCK-BMAL1 heterodimers. Location: Nucleus; Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, microtubule organizing center, centrosome; Cytoplasm (UniProt). Locus 3p24.3 (HGNC).
Notes
top- Written by scripts/fetch-cancer-genes.ts from CIViC, Open Targets, IntOGen, HGNC and UniProt; the function text is UniProt's, condensed and in UK spelling. Roles: none stated by the sources. Evidence tier "association-only" is the strongest of those signals.
- Prevalence not recorded: none of the sources gives a positivity rate.
