ZBTB48
ZBTB48 (Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 48) is a gene that drives cell growth when it is altered. The public catalogues list it as an oncogene driver, and it is called a cancer driver by mutation analysis of patient cohorts. Tied to Angiosarcoma.
Overview
Plays a critical role in transcriptional regulation and chromatin remodeling. Acts as a regulator of telomere length. Directly binds the telomeric double-stranded 5'-TTAGGG-3' repeat.
IntOGen calls it a driver in 1 cohort (1 activating, 0 loss-of-function), covering Angiosarcoma.

No product in this corpus aims at ZBTB48 yet. Drugs fit a pocket that exists only in one shape of the mutant protein and hold it there, off.

Biology
Plays a critical role in transcriptional regulation and chromatin remodeling. Acts as a regulator of telomere length. Directly binds the telomeric double-stranded 5'-TTAGGG-3' repeat. Preferentially binds to telomeres that have a low concentration of shelterin complex and acts as a regulator of telomere length by initiating telomere trimming, a process that prevents the accumulation of aberrantly long telomeres. Also acts as a transcription regulator that binds to promoter regions. Regulates expression of a small subset of genes, including MTFP1. Location: Nucleus; Chromosome, telomere (UniProt). Locus 1p36.31 (HGNC).

Notes
top- Written by scripts/fetch-cancer-genes.ts from CIViC, Open Targets, IntOGen, HGNC and UniProt; the function text is UniProt's, condensed and in UK spelling. Roles: IntOGen calls it an activating (Act) driver in 1 cohort. Evidence tier "cohort-driver" is the strongest of those signals.
- Prevalence not recorded: none of the sources gives a positivity rate.
