The trial testing a thing the NHS already does without evidence: giving radiotherapy after surgery for a high-risk squamous cell carcinoma, to stop it coming back.
Adjuvant radiotherapy after excision of a high-risk cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma is widely offered in the UK and has never been tested in a randomised trial. SCC-AFTER, sponsored by Cardiff University with a target of 840 participants and a registered end date of 1 January 2031, is the trial. Together with SPOT-IT and EXCISE it makes Cardiff the centre of British keratinocyte cancer trials, which is itself worth noticing: the commonest cancers in the country have almost no randomised evidence base, and most of what is being built is being built in Wales.
