Outpace Bio uses computer-aided protein design to build engineered T-cell therapies for solid tumours. It is testing two such therapies in women with ovarian and endometrial cancer that has come back.
Outpace Bio, Inc. is a Seattle company spun out of Lyell Immunopharma in 2021, according to the company, by protein-design and cell-engineering scientists. It uses AI-powered protein design to add modules to engineered T cells: OUTSPACER optimised CARs, OUTSMART designed cytokines, OUTLAST persistence, OUTMATCH paired TCR chains, OUTSAFE (an EGFR-based safety switch responsive to cetuximab) and OUTDRIVE in vivo delivery. OPB-101 is an autologous mesothelin CAR-T with antigen-dependent expression of an OUTSMART designed IL-2. OPB-201 is an autologous PRAME-specific TCR-T carrying a designed potency-enhancing protein. The company announced a $144 million oversubscribed Series B in August 2024. Its first registered cancer trial, NCT07030907, a phase 1a/b study of OPB-101 in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in June 2025 and has since been terminated, with the registry giving a business decision as the reason. NCT07664735, a phase 1a/b study of OPB-201 in recurrent endometrial and platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, was posted in June 2026.
