UTC Therapeutics develops CAR-T cell therapies for solid tumours, made from the patient's own immune cells and engineered to keep working inside the tumour. It is testing them in cancers that carry the markers mesothelin, HER2 or CD70.
UTC Therapeutics Inc. was founded in Shanghai in October 2019, according to the company, by Yangbing Zhao and Xiaojun Liu, formerly director and deputy director of the T cell engineering laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania, with Daniel (Xiaodong) Song; it has offices in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Singapore and the United States. Its LACO-Stim platform is designed to enhance T-cell function, and it also uses mRNA CARs, lentiviral CARs, a shorter-manufacture FlashCAR format and an in vivo CAR programme. The pipeline targets mesothelin (UCMYM802, an mRNA CAR-T; UCLM805; UCLM805F), HER2 (UCLE802), CDH17, CD70 (UCL70802, UCL70805F) and GPC3 in hepatocellular cancer. China's NMPA approved its first IND in June 2023 and the FDA cleared an IND for UCLM805 in mesothelin-positive cancers in July 2025. The company reports a Series A in October 2019 and an A+ financing in February 2021, without amounts. Its first registered cancer trial, NCT06256055, a first-in-human phase 1 dose-escalation study of UCMYM802 in mesothelin-positive advanced solid tumours with Peking University Cancer Hospital, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in February 2024. Later registrations cover anti-HER2 CAR-T in HER2-positive solid tumours (NCT06658951) and UCL70805F in CD70-positive clear cell renal carcinoma (NCT07500805).
