Methylprednisolone is a steroid medicine given into a vein. The WHO lists it as an essential medicine for treating lymphoid leukaemia and Burkitt lymphoma, as part of the treatment plan.
Methylprednisolone is on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines in the cancer section on hormones and antihormones, as 40 mg and 125 mg vials for intravenous injection (as sodium succinate), for lymphoid leukaemia and for Burkitt lymphoma including Burkitt leukaemia. The EML status history records it as first added in 2011 for lymphoid leukaemia (TRS 965) and added in 2021 for Burkitt lymphoma (TRS 1035). The US label for the injection (Solu-Medrol, distributed by Pharmacia & Upjohn Company LLC, a subsidiary of Pfizer Inc) lists, under neoplastic diseases, the palliative management of leukaemias and lymphomas. The corpus's other glucocorticoids are dexamethasone, prednisone and hydrocortisone.
