Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM)
Montreal's francophone university hospital, whose researchers showed the gut microbiome shapes immunotherapy response and lead major prostate cancer trials.
The CHUM is the Université de Montréal's adult teaching hospital, consolidated on a new downtown campus in 2017, with the Centre de recherche du CHUM (CRCHUM) and the Institut du cancer de Montréal as its research arms. Bertrand Routy's 2018 Science paper showed that antibiotics blunt checkpoint inhibitor efficacy and that specific gut bacteria predict response, launching faecal microbiota transplant trials to overcome immunotherapy resistance. Urologist Fred Saad has led or co-led landmark prostate cancer trials, including PROpel (olaparib plus abiraterone), and Réjean Lapointe's group develops TIL and T-cell therapies. The hospital runs Quebec's largest oncology clinical trial programme in French and English.
