A Canadian foundation in Toronto that gives the Canada Gairdner Awards each year to biomedical and global health researchers.
The Gairdner Foundation, at the MaRS Centre in Toronto, gives the Canada Gairdner Awards. It states that 443 awards have gone to laureates from more than 40 countries since 1957, and that 105 of those laureates went on to receive Nobel Prizes. Five Canada Gairdner International Awards are given each year to biomedical scientists for original contributions to the understanding of human biology and disease; one John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award for research that has improved the health of people facing health inequities; and two Peter Gilgan Canada Gairdner Momentum Awards to mid-career researchers working in Canada. The Canada Gairdner Wightman Award is on hiatus. The awards are not specific to cancer, and the laureate list on the foundation's site loads only in a browser, so no laureate is linked here yet.
