IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital
A Milan research hospital known for Alberto Mantovani's work on tumour-associated macrophages and for stereotactic radiotherapy and liver cancer trials.
Humanitas Research Hospital, founded in 1996 in Rozzano, is a private IRCCS teaching hospital with its own Humanitas University. Alberto Mantovani, its scientific director, established the concept of cancer-related inflammation and the role of tumour-associated macrophages, complement and pentraxin 3 in tumour progression. The Humanitas Cancer Center under Armando Santoro has been a major site for hepatocellular carcinoma and biliary cancer trials, including with Lorenza Rimassa, and Marta Scorsetti's radiotherapy department is a leader in stereotactic body radiotherapy for oligometastatic disease. The hospital also runs haematology, thoracic and colorectal surgery and an early-phase unit, and holds OECI accreditation.
