National Cancer Center Korea

The National Cancer Center Korea opened in 2000 in Goyang, north of Seoul, as the state-run hospital, research institute and graduate school for cancer, and it administers the Korea Central Cancer Registry, the National Cancer Screening Program (stomach, liver, colorectal, breast, cervix and lung) and the National Cancer Control Institute. Korea's national gastric cancer endoscopy screening, which it evaluates, is credited with high early-detection rates and falling mortality. The centre opened Korea's first proton therapy centre in 2007, runs one of the country's largest clinical trial programmes, and hosts research on hepatocellular carcinoma, gastric and colorectal cancer, lung cancer screening and cancer survivorship. It also trains cancer-control professionals for the Asia-Pacific region with IARC and WHO.
