National Cancer Center Hospital East
The Kashiwa campus of Japan's National Cancer Center, a proton and early-phase powerhouse that leads SCRUM-Japan and many global gastrointestinal cancer trials.
NCC Hospital East opened in 1992 in Kashiwa as the second hospital of the National Cancer Center and has become one of the most productive trial sites in the world for gastrointestinal, thoracic and head and neck cancer. It hosts the Exploratory Oncology Research and Clinical Trial Center (EPOC), a large phase 1 unit, one of Japan's first hospital-based proton therapy facilities, and the SCRUM-Japan nationwide genomic screening platform (GI-SCREEN, LC-SCRN, MONSTAR-SCREEN, CIRCULATE-Japan) led by Takayuki Yoshino. Kohei Shitara and Toshihiko Doi have led pivotal gastric and oesophageal cancer trials of trastuzumab deruxtecan, zolbetuximab and nivolumab, and Koichi Goto's thoracic group has led ALK, ROS1 and RET programmes. The campus includes the National Cancer Center's photoimmunotherapy and surgical innovation groups.

Leads CIRCULATE-Japan, the largest ctDNA-guided adjuvant programme in colorectal cancer, and the PARADIGM and SCRUM-Japan GI efforts.
Principal investigator of SPOTLIGHT and DESTINY-Gastric01, two trials that created new drug classes for stomach cancer.
Led the first-in-human study of trastuzumab deruxtecan and runs one of Asia's most productive phase 1 units.
Leads thoracic oncology at NCC East and the LC-SCRUM-Japan network that connects rare-driver lung cancer patients to trials.
