Sendai's university hospital and the clinical arm of the Tohoku Medical Megabank, with strengths in breast cancer, gastroenterology and imaging.

Tohoku University Hospital is the leading academic hospital of north-eastern Japan and a designated core hospital for cancer genome medicine. Tohoku University's Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer and the Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization, created after the 2011 earthquake, provide large genomic and cohort resources, and the hospital is known for breast cancer research (including steroid receptor pathology under Hironobu Sasano), gastrointestinal endoscopy and surgery, thoracic surgery and radiological sciences. Its investigators are active in JCOG, the Japan Breast Cancer Research Group and hepatology trials, and the Tohoku region operates one of Japan's newer proton facilities nearby.
