Uppsala University Hospital / Uppsala University

aka Akademiska sjukhuset, Skandion Clinic, Rudbeck Laboratory

Sweden's oldest university hospital, next to the national Skandion proton clinic and a world reference centre for neuroendocrine tumours.

Akademiska sjukhuset and Uppsala University form one of Scandinavia's leading cancer research environments. Uppsala's neuroendocrine tumour centre, built by Kjell Öberg, is an ENETS Centre of Excellence with long experience of somatostatin analogues and peptide receptor radionuclide therapy, and Bengt Glimelius's group shaped Nordic rectal cancer radiotherapy trials. The Skandion Clinic, Sweden's national proton therapy facility co-owned by the university regions, opened in Uppsala in 2015 using IBA equipment. Tobias Sjöblom's laboratory contributed to the first colorectal cancer exome sequencing and runs the U-CAN biobank, Uppsala scientists founded Olink Proteomics, and the Uppsala Clinical Research Center supports national trials.
