David Baker
Nobel laureate biochemist who founded and directs the Institute for Protein Design, which builds new proteins for medicine including cancer therapeutics.
Overview
David Baker is Founder and Director of the Institute for Protein Design at the University of Washington, founded in 2012 with the mission of creating new proteins that address challenges across medicine, technology and sustainability. He is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and the Henrietta and Aubrey Davis Endowed Professor in Biochemistry. His group developed the Rosetta and RoseTTAFold methods for protein structure prediction and design, and he received half of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for computational protein design. Neil King serves as the institute's Deputy Director.
