Govindan Rangarajan

Professor Govindan Rangarajan is Director of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the research university established in Bengaluru in 1909 through a partnership between Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the Mysore royal family and the Government of India. He holds an integrated MSc from BITS Pilani and a PhD from the University of Maryland, worked at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, and joined the IISc Department of Mathematics in 1992; his research covers nonlinear dynamics, chaos and time series analysis. Before becoming Director he chaired several departments and divisions, directed the Indo-French Centre for Applied Mathematics and led the institute's international relations and development work. He is a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India, and a Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Academiques.
