Mark Schiffman
NCI epidemiologist whose HPV natural history studies underpin HPV-based cervical screening and risk-based management worldwide.
Overview
Mark Schiffman led the Guanacaste and Portland Kaiser cohorts that defined the natural history of HPV infection and cervical precancer, work that established HPV testing as a screening test, single-dose vaccine efficacy signals, and the risk-based ASCCP management guidelines. He leads NCI efforts on automated visual evaluation with AI and self-sampling to bring screening to low-resource settings.
