Miguel A. Sanz
Spanish haematologist who led the PETHEMA trials that tailored acute promyelocytic leukaemia treatment to relapse risk, and who chaired the European LeukemiaNet recommendations for the disease.
Overview
Miguel Sanz is a haematologist at Hospital La Fe in Valencia and a founder of the Spanish PETHEMA cooperative group. He led the PETHEMA LPA trials that established risk-adapted ATRA and anthracycline therapy for acute promyelocytic leukaemia and defined the Sanz risk score based on white cell and platelet counts. He was first author of the 2019 Blood update of the European LeukemiaNet recommendations for managing the disease.
